истинная романтика современной археологии заключается вовсе не в том, что с ее помощью можно увидеть во всей красе фараонов, почивших триста столетий назад, а в том, что, соединив воедино бесчисленные мелочи, можно окунуться в тот мир, где жили эти самые фараоны, и постигнуть царившие при их дворе порядки, и, что гораздо важнее для изучения прошлого, – узнать о торговле и взаимодействии Египта с соседними странами… Наука, с помощью которой можно воскресить прошлое, никогда не потеряет оттенка романтики в глазах тех, кто знает цену чудесам.[135]
