ПО СЕЙ ДЕНЬ НЕ НАЙДЕНО ДОСТОВЕРНОЙ ИНФОРМАЦИИ о последних часах жизни Януша Корчака, его сотрудников и детей. Довольно долго после окончания войны бытовали слухи о том, что он был спасен вместе со Стефой и некоторыми сиротами и что их видели в ряде польских деревень. Существуют разные свидетельства, но с наибольшей степенью вероятности все они были депортированы в лагерь Треблинка после полудня 5 августа 1942 года. Начальник лагеря доктор Ирмфрид Эберль сообщал вышестоящему начальству, что в это время Треблинка была переполнена людьми и там творился хаос, а новоприбывших встречали горы трупов, посему стало практически невозможно держать людей в неведении, когда их отправляли в газовые камеры.
