The Patristic: St. John of Damascus, St. Cosmas of Majum, St. Maximos the Greek 55 and many others more than once warned about the blasphemous contain of Islam. In the canons of Oktoikh duly read during the Small Vespers you can often meet a prayer to the Holy Theotokos: «protect us from the children of Agarian».

«And those saving, will save their souls, who live in the Orthodox Denomination, — St. Theodosius of Kiev and Pechers teaches, — for there is no belief better than ours since pure and holy our Orthodox belief is. Those living in this belief will get rid of sins and will avoid eternal tortures, but will receive communion of eternal life and will rejoice with the saints. And those who live in another belief, either Latin, or Saracen, or Armenian, will never achieve eternal life. So do not, child, praise, a foreign belief...»56

But The Most Reverend Anthony says: «From Indian religions I learned a lot of precious things and was interested in yoga being a doctor» 57. So he wouldn't miss the buddhist wisdom as well. Thus, telling about a salt-doll which wanted to cognize the sea and gradually entering it, itself became the sea, His Eminence writes: «Not drawing absolute parallels with the buddhist doll a Christian cognition of God, we may still find much truth in this story». It is rather strange for an Orthodox metropolitan to seek for truth in a heathen religion, instead of exposing its delusion. For this «much truth», offered by the author of «The School» in this story is a transparent lie and a contrivance of the sly snake. It is enough to consider this story attentively so as to understand its meaning. The buddhist salt doll, a man, desiring to cognize the sea, god, entered the sea to dissolve in it. Here from we derive a conclusion that a man should be involved into a sophisticated mental process to become one of the heathen gods.

This is what attracts the followers of buddhism. And you shall be as gods — Satan told to Eve in paradise, tempting her to sin. Here we find the origin of a desire to be above everyone and rule everyone. This is the fruit of pride from tale, elaborately embroidered. Seduced by such truthful desire, the poor people are under the delusion of a passionate ambition to achieve the feeling of being godlike.

«If there is a person who praises another belief becomes the abuser of his own, — says St. Theodosius. — But if he starts praising continuously his own and another one, such one turns out to be a bi-believer and he is close to heresy. Thus, you, child, beware and constantly praise your own confession. Do not get to know them, but keep away from them and pursue in good deeds of your belief...» 59

Has, by any chance, His Eminence asked himself a question: why Christ came down to the Earth? Why did He go through Crucifixion? If it is all the same how to believe, then Jesus' sufferings were in vain. But the Most Reverend Anthony does not specify that Jesus Christ did come to deliver the truthful teaching in order to bring the sinners to repentance, and there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved60.

In «The School of Prayer» even into a deeper confusion drives the example from the life of Chassids. His Eminence with great admiration writes about a young rabbin Tsussy: «He [Tsussy] could influence other people amazingly, arising repentance in their souls, arising new life»61. Most probably, this rabbin influenced His Eminence the same amazingly, for he praises the repentance of those, who never had real repentance, those, who crucified Jesus, and those who acknowledged the curse of their descendants, stating that His blood be on us and on our children62 and those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan63.

Это позволило ему на долгие годы избавиться от обычных афонских распрей: от борьбы партий, от национальной вражды. И Пантелеимонов монастырь стал одним из главных русских монастырей: выдающаяся издательская деятельность, многочисленная братия, прекрасные храмы – с одной стороны; непрекращающаяся молитва, известная всему миру благолепная служба – с другой. И, наконец, главный плод монашеской жизни – святые подвижники и угодники Божии, скончавшие свои дни и нашедшие последнее упокоение в костнице родной им по духу русской обители.
