Вот проект контракта. Теарики сегодня зайдет ко мне в контору.

Пребывание на острове обойдется вам в 2000 долларов, но Теарики хочет получить 500 долларов отдельно. За организационные хлопоты и т. п. Что касается аренды «зодиака» или алюминиевой лодки, то я подыщу для вас что-нибудь за полцены.

Будьте здесь 21, тогда мы сможем переправить вас в тот же день, как только судно закончит погрузку. Оно прибудет на Раро в понедельник 16 или 17, если все пройдет гладко. Затем они загружаются, и где-то в субботу 21 или воскресенье 22 в полдень отплывают.

Все зависит от погоды и погрузки.

Memorandum of Agreement

Between:

Owners of free hold land of the Island of Manuae, represented by Teariki Jacob, and seven Norwegian scientist writers, represented by Erlend Loe.

The scientists will stay about one month on Manuae doing research. This is a follow up of Thor Heyerdahls expeditions in the South West Pacific.

As a thank to the owners of the Island the scientists want to show their good will and give them a donation of $NZ 1500.

The scientists will stay on the island on their own risk and expenses.

They hereby declare that there should be no charge or any expense-claim what-so-ever towards the owners of Manuae or anybody in the Cook Islands.

The Island of Manuae is unique and the visitors promise not to disturb any wild life fauna or flora.

The island is going to be left as it was found.

If any claims are arisen due to negligence the expedition leader Erlend Loe promises to refund any expenses occurred.

По-над Тихим океаном

Мы сидим в самолете и уже пересекли один океан и Америку. Сейчас мы изготовились пересечь другой, великий — Тихий океан. Отправление было чрезвычайно драматичным, так как я забыл книжку «Справочник по выживанию». В ней рассказывается все, что нужно для того, чтобы мы выжили. А я ее забыл! Я обнаружил это в макси-такси на пути к аэродрому. Сперва я не хотел ничего говорить, потому что с нами был журналист. Мне не хотелось осрамиться уже в самом начале пути, но потом я передумал (я решил, что если с кем-нибудь из нас что-то случится и он не выживет только из-за того, что мне гордыня помешала остановить такси, мне это будет трудно пережить) и попросил шофера остановиться возле дома моих знакомых, у них, как мне было известно, тоже есть эта книга.
