Somebody else seems in trouble, too. You can hear his faint cries coming from underneath your bed. Determining, at all events, to sell your life dearly, you struggle frantically, hitting out right and left with arms and legs, and yelling lustily the while, and at last something gives way, and you find your head in the fresh air. Two feet off, you dimly observe a half-dressed ruffian, waiting to kill you, and you are preparing for a life-and-death struggle with him, when it begins to dawn upon you that it's Jim.

"Oh, it's you, is it (о, это ты, да)?" he says, recognising you at the same moment (говорит он, узнавая вас в тот же миг).

"Yes," you answer, rubbing your eyes (отвечаете вы, протирая глаза); "what's happened (что случилось)?"

"Bally tent's blown down, I think (думаю, проклятую палатку сдуло; to blow — дуть, продувать)," he says.

"Where's Bill (где Билл)?"

Then you both raise up your voices and shout for "Bill!" (потом вы оба возвышаете голоса и громко зовете «Билл!») and the ground beneath you heaves and rocks (и земля под вами ходит вверх и вниз; to heave — вздыматься, подниматься и опускаться /о волнах/; to rock — качать/ся/, сотрясать/ся/), and the muffled voice that you heard before replies from out the ruin (а приглушенный голос, который вы слышали раньше, отвечает из-под развалин):

In the morning you are all three speechless (утром вы все трое немы/молчаливы; speech — речь), owing to having caught severe colds in the night (из-за того, что подхватили сильную простуду ночью; to catch — ловить); you also feel very quarrelsome (вы также чувствуете, что вы очень раздражительны/сварливы; quarrel — ссора, спор, раздоры), and you swear at each other in hoarse whispers during the whole of breakfast time (и ругаете друг друга хриплым шепотом в течение всего /времени/ завтрака).

We therefore decided that we would sleep out on fine nights (поэтому мы решили, что будем спать на открытом воздухе в хорошие ночи); and hotel it, and inn it, and pub it, like respectable folks (и ночевать в гостиницах, постоялых дворах и трактирах, как порядочные люди; respectable — почтенный, представительный; приличный), when it was wet, or when we felt inclined for a change (когда дождливо или когда нам захочется разнообразия; to feel/to be inclined — быть склонным, расположенным, тяготеть).
