Bilbo was dreadfully frightened, but he had the sense to understand what had happened and to sneak behind a big barrel which held drink for the goblin-guards, and so get out of the way and avoid being bumped into, trampled to death, or caught by feel.

“I must get to the door (я должен добраться до двери), I must get to the door (я должен добраться до двери)!” he kept on saying to himself (он продолжал повторять себе), but it was a long time (но прошло много времени) before he ventured to try (до того, как он рискнул попробовать). It was still ajar (она была все еще приоткрыта), but a goblin had pushed it nearly to (но какой-то гоблин почти что захлопнул ее). Bilbo struggled (Бильбо старался изо всех сил; to struggle — бороться, биться; делать усилия) but he could not move it (но он не мог сдвинуть ее).
