The game was brought to a sudden interruption (игра внезапно прервалась), for the cabin door was swung rudely open (поскольку дверь в каюту резко распахнулась от удара; to swing – качать; ударять, бить изо всей силы; rudely – грубо; резко), and two rough fellows – Israel Martin, the boatswain, and Red Foley, the gunner (и двое грубых молодцов – боцман Израэль Мартин и канонир Рэд Фоули) – rushed into the cabin (ворвались внутрь: «в каюту»). “Sink you for villains!” he cried (чтоб вам утонуть, негодяи! – вскричал он). “I see well that if I do not shoot one of you from time to time (я теперь вижу, что если я не буду отстреливать по одному из вас время от времени; well – хорошо; ясно, четко) you will forget the man I am (вы позабудете, кто я есть). “Sink you for villains!” he cried. “I see well that if I do not shoot one of you from time to time you will forget the man I am. What mean you by entering my cabin as though it were a Wapping alehouse?”

“Nay, Captain Sharkey,” said Martin, with a sullen frown upon his brick-red face (хватит, капитан Шарки, – сказал Мартин, с угрюмым выражением на кирпично-красном лице; nay – отрицательный ответ; frown – выражение неодобрения, нахмуренность), “it is even such talk as this which has set us by the ears (даже этот разговор – причина тому, чтобы нас рассорить; to set by the ears – послужить причиной ссоры, спора). We have had enough of it (довольно с нас этого).”

“And more than enough,” said Red Foley, the gunner (даже более чем довольно, – сказал Рэд Фоули, канонир). “There be no mates aboard a pirate craft (на борту пиратского судна нет помощников капитана), and so the boatswain, the gunner, and the quartermaster are the officers (поэтому боцман, канонир и интендант являются офицерами).”

“Did I gainsay it?” asked Sharkey with an oath (а я разве отрицал это? – спросил Шарки, выругавшись).

“You have miscalled us and mishandled us before the men (ты ругаешь нас и дурно обходишься с нами на глазах у матросов: «перед матросами»), and we scarce know at this moment (и мы в данный момент вряд ли знаем = понимаем; scarce – едва ли, вряд ли) why we should risk our lives in fighting for the cabin and against the foc’sle (с какой стати нам рисковать жизнями и защищать твою каюту от /тех, кто собрался/ на полубаке).”
