Again came the careful washing (снова последовало бережное промывание), the jealous herding of the golden specks (ревнивое собирание золотых крупинок), and the wantonness with which he sent them flying into the stream (и расточительство, с которым он выбрасывал: «отправлял лететь» их в ручей) when he had counted their number (когда он подсчитывал их количество).

“Five,” he muttered (пять, – пробормотал он), and repeated, “five.” (и повторил: пять)
