Наиболее подходящий кандидат на латинский молитвенник, который Мария взяла с собой на эшафот, — HEH, MS 1200. Это иллюстрированный часослов в темно-красном бархатном переплете с изящными бронзовыми застежками. Он не был специально изготовлен для Марии, а прислан в качестве подарка папой Пием V, когда ее держали в плену в Англии. На обложке написана фраза почерком Якова II (видна только в ультрафиолетовых лучах): «Эта книга принадлежала Марии, королеве Шотландии, и она взяла ее с собой на эшафот».
