Россия и ее империя. 1450–1801

Продолжались картографирование и научное исследование страны. В 1830–1840-е годы отношения верховной власти с иноверцами стали более формализованными. По инициативе правительства появилось множество ученых обществ. Отделения Академии наук в Петербурге, Москве, Киеве, Вильно и крупных провинциальных городах собирали исторические источники и публиковали их в объемистых сборниках. Историки (Н. М. Карамзин, М. П. Погодин, С. М. Соловьев и другие) создавали труды по истории России, соответствовавшие европейским стандартам того времени. Закреплялись нормы литературного языка, выходили академические словари. В результате всего этого Россия обрела специалистов, способных инициировать переход к более интегрированному и плюралистичному режиму. Создание условий для проявления такой социальной энергии – возможно, лучшее наследство, которое эпоха раннего Нового времени оставила современной России.
