Wonderful to hear from you and to know of your project about a book concerning Madame Dulova.

Soon I will look in my old pictures and documents that might be of some help to you.

Mme Dulova was an extraordinary personality in the harp world that left a mark on anyone that had the honor to have met her and have heard her playing. I will soon be in touch with some thoughts.

Meanwhile and very briefly I will mention the first time I met her and heard a recital of her playing.

In 1964 at Queekhoven in Holland I was privileged to be present at the Harp Week. It was the year in which Mme Dulova came to Western Europa for the first time and participated in a musical event. The recital was extraordinary not only for her superior playing as well as by the fact that apart from the presence of Phia Berghout and Maria Korchinskaya which happened to have been a pupil of Mme Dulova earlier in the century in Moscow [vice versa. — N. Sh.], present in the hall were also two remarkable Russian musicians, composer Aram Khatchaturian and cellist Rostropovich.

It was an extraordinary musical event that one young as me at that time shall never forget.

Dear Natalia, please guide me in what kind of information you mostly are looking for. I am going to look at pictures and old programs of the Harp Week and as well as the World Harp Congress.

Personally, I have great memories of the two trips to Moscow and the honor you made to me to be a member of the jury of the Competition held in memory of Mme Dulova.

Hope you and your family are in good health and I am looking forward to staying in touch and helping a bit on your remarkable project.

Please convey to your husband my appreciation that I have his two beautiful drawing and print that you were kind to give me. In separate email I am sending a picture.

Мадам Дулова была необыкновенной личностью в арфовом мире, которая повлияла на всех, кто её встречал и кто её слышал. Впервые я встретил и услышал её в Кекковене. В 1964 году мне повезло быть на международной Неделе арфы в Голландии. Это был год, когда мадам Дулова впервые присутствовала на Неделе. Её сольный концерт был необыкновенным не только по совершенству исполнения, но и потому, что на нём кроме Фиа Бергхаут и Марии Корчинской, у которой училась Дулова когда-то в Москве, присутствовали два выдающихся российских музыканта: композитор Арам Хачатурян и виолончелист Мстислав Ростропович.

Это было необыкновенное событие в мире музыки, которое юноша, каким я был в то время, никогда не забудет.

Пожалуйста, подскажите, какого рода информация Вам нужна. Я постараюсь найти фотографии и программки Арфовых Недель и Международных конгрессов. У меня сохранились в памяти два приезда в Москву, и честь, которую Вы мне оказали, пригласив быть членом жюри конкурса памяти Дуловой.

The first time I met Vera Georgievna Dulova was at the International Harp Weeks near Maastricht, organized by Phia Berghout.

She would bring 2 students with her and everybody was impressed by the high standard of harp playing.

After my first diploma at the conservatory, I applied for an exchange program between The Netherlands and the former Soviet Union to study with Vera Georgievna Dulova in Moscow (1986–1987).
