Hendricks bent shakily down.	Хендрикс, трясясь, наклонился.
The front of the head had come off. He could make out the intricate brain, wires and relays, tiny tubes and switches, thousands of minute studs-	Верхнюю часть головы, видно, снесло выстрелом - был отчетливо виден сложный искусственный мозг. Провода, реле, крошечные трубки и переключатели, тысяча блестящих винтиков...
"A robot," the soldier holding his arm said.	- Робот, - придерживая Хендрикса, сказал солдат.
"We watched it tagging you." "Tagging me?"	- Мы наблюдали за вами.
"That's their way.	- Так они действуют.
They tag along with you.	Увязываются за тобой и не отстают.
Into the bunker. That's how they get in."	И если они попадают в бункер, то это конец.
Hendricks blinked, dazed.	Хендрикс ничего не понимал.
"But-"	- Но...
"Come on." They led him toward the ridge.	- Пошли.
"We can't stay here.	Мы не можем оставаться здесь.
It isn't safe.	Это опасно.
There must be hundreds of them all around here."	Их тут сотни.
The three of them pulled him up the side of the ridge, sliding and slipping on the ash.	Его потащили наверх.
The woman reached the top and stood waiting for them.	Женщина первой взобралась на вершину и теперь дожидалась остальных.
"The forward command," Hendricks muttered.	- Мне нужен командный пункт, - бормотал Хендрикс.
"I came to negotiate with the Soviet-"	- Я пришел, чтобы вести переговоры.
"There is no more forward command. They got in.	- Нет больше командного пункта. Они уничтожили его.
We'll explain."	Сейчас поймешь.
They reached the top of the ridge.	- Они достигли вершины.
"We're all that's left.	- Мы - это все, что осталось.
The three of us.	Три человека.
The rest were down in the bunker."	Остальные погибли в бункере.
"This way.	- Сюда.
Down this way."	Вниз.
The woman unscrewed a lid, a gray manhole cover set in the ground.	- Женщина открыла люк, отодвинув серую тяжелую крышку.
"Get in."	- Давайте.
Hendricks lowered himself.	Майор начал спускаться.
The two soldiers and the woman came behind him, following him down the ladder. The woman closed the lid after them, bolting it tightly into place.	Солдаты - за ним.
