It was a beast not unlike the Mabden in general shape (то было животное, весьма похожее: «не непохожее» на мабденов в общих чертах), but it was wholly covered in its own fur (но оно было полностью покрыто /своим/ мехом). Corum was astonished. The beast could see him! Unlike the Mabden, unlike the other creatures of the plane, this one had second sight.

Corum's agony was so intense that he was forced to screw up his eye at the pain. When he opened it again, the creature had come right up to the board.

Corum watched it go (Корум наблюдал, как оно шло), almost forgetful of his pain in his astonishment (почти позабыв о своей боли от изумления; forgetful — забывчивый, забывающий).

Yet there was a look of great sorrow on its face as it observed Corum. It gestured at him and grunted, pointing into the forest as if it wanted Corum to accompany him. He shook his head, indicating the manacles with a nod.

Corum watched it go, almost forgetful of his pain in his astonishment.

Had the creature witnessed his torture (/может/ существо видело его истязание)? Was it trying to save him (/неужели/ оно пытается спасти его)?

Or perhaps this was an illusion (или, может быть, это был мираж; illusion — иллюзия, мираж), like the illusion of the city and his sister, induced by his agonies (как видение города и его сестры, вызванное страданиями Корума; to induce — заставлять, побуждать; вызывать, приводить к).

He felt his energy weakening (он почувствовал, что его сила уменьшается = что силы покидают его; to weaken — слабеть, ослаблять). A few more moments and he would be returning to the plane (еще несколько мгновений — и он вернется в плоскость) where the Mabden would be able to see him (где мабдены смогут увидеть его). And he knew that he would not find the strength again to leave the plane (он знал, что не найдет силы снова = у него не хватит сил, чтобы снова покинуть /свою/ плоскость).

Then the brown creature reappeared (затем бурое существо появилось опять) and it was leading something by one of its hands, pointing at Corum (ведя с собой что-то = какое-то другое существо за руку: «за одну из его рук», указывая на Корума).

Had the creature witnessed his torture? Was it trying to save him?
