`After a few moments (спустя несколько мгновений) the captain of the guard (начальник стражников) dismissed the soldiers (отпустил/распустил солдат). `When the Emperor saw me (когда Император увидел меня; to see (saw, seen)) he frowned (он нахмурился/нахмурил брови), and said to me, "What is thy name (как тебя зовут: «какое твое имя»)? Knowest thou not (разве ты не знаешь; knowest thou not = don’t you know) that I am Emperor of this city (что я — Император этого города)?" But I made him no answer (но я не ответила ему; to make (made)).

`When the Emperor saw me he frowned, and said to me, "What is thy name? Knowest thou not that I am Emperor of this city?" But I made him no answer.
