`That night (той ночью), as I lay on a cushion in the tea-house (когда я лежала на /диванной/ подушке в чайной; to lie (lay, lain)) that is in the Street of Pomegranates (которая находится на Гранатовой Улице), the guards of the Emperor entered (вошли стражники/охранники Императора) and led me to the palace (и повели меня во дворец; to lead (led)). As I went in (когда я вошла /во дворец/) they closed each door behind me (они закрывали за мною каждую дверь), and put a chain across it (и навешивали на нее по цепи). The pillars were of green marble (столбы/колонны были из зеленого мрамора), and the pavement of a kind of peach-blossom marble (и мраморный мозаичный пол был такого же цвета как цветки персика: «и пол был похож на персикового цвета мрамор»). I had never seen anything like it before (я никогда раньше не видела ничего подобного).
