 “Curse me, if she is not a lass of metal!” he cried, as he pressed her to him and kissed her unresisting lips.

But a strange intent look of interest had come into the surgeon’s eyes as he watched her, and his face set rigidly, as if a fearsome thought had entered his mind. There stole a grey pallor over his bull face, mottling all the red of the tropics and the flush of the wine.

“Look at her hand, Captain Sharkey!” he cried (взгляни на ее руку, капитан Шарки! вскричал он). “For the Lord’s sake, look at her hand (ради Бога, взгляни на ее руку; Lord – Бог; for sake – для, ради /кого-л./)

Sharkey stared down at the hand which had fondled him (Шарки уставился на руку, которая ласкала его). It was of a strange dead pallor (она была странного мертвенно-бледного /цвета/), with a yellow shiny web betwixt the fingers (с желтыми блестящими перепонками между пальцев; web – паутина; перепонка /у уток, летучих мышей и т. п./). All over it was a white fluffy dust

(/кожу/ на всей руке покрывала белая пушистая пыль), like the flour of a new-baked loaf (напоминавшая муку на свежевыпеченном хлебе). It lay thick on Sharkey’s neck and cheek (она густо лежала на шее и на щеке Шарки).

 “Look at her hand, Captain Sharkey!” he cried. “For the Lord’s sake, look at her hand!”

With a cry he flung the woman from his lap (с криком он сбросил женщину с колен; to fling; lap – колени /верхняя часть ног у сидящего человека/); but in an instant, with a wild-cat bound, and a scream of triumphant malice (но в тот же миг, с торжествующим злобным криком в прыжке дикой кошки), she had sprung at the surgeon (она бросилась на врача; to spring – прыгать, скакать), who vanished yelling under the table

(который, взвизгнув, исчез под столом; to yell – пронзительно кричать). One of her clawing hands grasped Galloway by the beard (одной своей когтистой рукой она ухватила Гэллоуэя за бороду), but he tore himself away, and snatching a pike, held her off from him (но он вырвался и, схватив пику, удерживал ее на расстоянии от себя; to tear; to hold off – удерживать поодаль) as she gibbered and mowed with the blazing eyes of a maniac (а она бормотала что-то неразборчивое и гримасничала с горящими, как у маньяка, глазами).
