He had forgotten the egg (он забыл о яйце; to forget). When the cobra runs for her life (когда кобра бежит за = спасает свою жизнь), she goes like a whip-lash flicked across a horse’s neck (она двигается так, как будто ремешок кнута хлещет по шее лошади; whip – кнут; lash – плеть, бич; ремешок /кнута/; to flick – стегнуть, щелкнуть, хлестнуть).
