Изображения военной кампании 1914 г. – редкость. Те, что якобы показывают боевые действия, часто нарочиты, а то и просто подделка, а многие современные подписи произвольны и неточны. Фотографии в этой книге отобраны с учетом вышесказанного и с намерением дать как можно более яркое представление о том, на что были похожи поля сражений. В то же время приходится признать, что для немногих из них удается определить место и время должным образом, хотя некоторые снимки сделаны до войны.
