Война Алой и Белой розы. Крах Плантагенетов и воцарение Тюдоров

Эдуард IV сумел во многом возместить ущерб, нанесенный стране Генрихом VI, восстановил структуру правительства и чрезвычайно умело и энергично управлял Англией. Но он совершил ошибку, женившись на Елизавете Вудвилл, чья большая семья не смогла легко вписаться в политическую систему, совсем недавно пережившую серьезную встряску. А в апреле 1483 года он умер, на что, конечно, едва ли мог повлиять, хотя и здесь можно сказать, что при его любви к чревоугодию и праздности он сам был виновен в ухудшении здоровья в зрелые годы. В любом случае малолетний наследник и группировка Вудвиллов, которые не могли или не желали приспосабливаться к текущим условиям, окончательно добили хрупкую и обветшалую политическую систему. Однако никто не предвидел и не мог предвидеть безжалостный захват власти Ричардом III и тот страшный период кровавых распрей, когда корону мог заполучить почти каждый, в ком текла хоть капля королевской крови и кто способен был собрать армию за границей. Тюдоры не выиграли всю Войну Алой и Белой розы, но победили в конфликте, который активно разгорелся с 1483 по 1487 год и тлел с 1487 по 1525 год. Тем не менее факт остается фактом: Тюдоры одержали верх. И, как и все победители, они получили право рассказать свою историю, и их версия событий дожила до наших дней.
