I am writing to ask for more information in connection with your ‘Call for Volunteers’ to help Greenpeace. I am not a member of Greenpeace but I would like to know more about how I can help.

I would be grateful if you could tell me what kind of work is involved and whether I would need any special qualifications. I am sixteen years old and I live in Moscow. I do not have much experience of environmental work but I help to clean up our local park every year.

I would also like to know where the work will take place. I would like to work in my own area if possible. I believe there are a lot of ecological problems in my city.

Finally, could you tell me when the work would be as I would prefer summer work? I go to school but I have a lot of free time in the holidays. If there is anything else I need to know, please let me know.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing with regard to your advertisement which I saw in ‘The St. Petersburg Times’ yesterday. We are organising a party to celebrate the engagement and we need more information.

First of all, I would like to know whether it is possible to book a private function room for Saturday, September 30 th from 20.30 till 24.00. We are planning to invite about 60 guests so I wonder if your room is big enough for our party. Another thing which is not clear in the advert is whether you have a special dance area and a music system. We are all keen on dancing so these facilities are very important for us.

We would also like to order your catering and want to know what kind of food you provide. I would appreciate if you could inform us about the menu in advance. We would prefer buffet if it is possible.

Finally, could you tell us how much the cost per person will be and when the deadline for the reservation is. We would be grateful if you could send us a reservation form.
