 “Poor man!” said she, when she laid eyes on him, “it’s a great distress you are in, to be so disfigured with wounds and sores. What is the trouble that’s on you?”

“I had a son,” said the old man, “and the Gruagach na g-cleasan came on a day and took him from me.”

“Oh, poor man (о, бедняга)!” said she. “I have a son with that same Gruagach these twelve years (мой сын у того же самого Груагаха все эти двенадцать лет), and I have never been able to get him back (а я так и не смогла вернуть его: «получить его обратно») or get sight of him (или повидать его; sight – зрение; вид; to get a sight of – увидеть, заметить), and I’m in dread (и я опасаюсь: «в опасении») you’ll not be able to get your son either (что и ты тоже не сможешь вернуть: «получить» своего сына). But tomorrow, in the morning, I’ll tell you all I know (но завтра утром я расскажу тебе все, что я знаю), and show you the road you must go (и покажу тебе дорогу, по которой ты должен будешь пойти) to find the house of the Gruagach na g-cleasan (чтобы найти дом Хитрого Груагаха).”

 “Oh, poor man!” said she. “I have a son with that same Gruagach these twelve years, and I have never been able to get him back or get sight of him, and I’m in dread you’ll not be able to get your son either. But tomorrow, in the morning, I’ll tell you all I know, and show you the road you must go to find the house of the Gruagach na g-cleasan.”

Next morning she showed the old fisherman the road (на следующее утро она показала старому рыбаку дорогу). He was to come to the place by evening (ему предстояло дойти до /нужного/ места к вечеру).

When he came and entered the house (когда он пришел /к дому Груагаха/ и вошел в тот дом), the Gruagach shook hands with him (Груагах пожал ему руку: «потряс с ним руки»; to shake /shook, shaken/ – трясти; пожимать /руку/), and said (и сказал),

 Next morning she showed the old fisherman the road. He was to come to the place by evening.

When he came and entered the house, the Gruagach shook hands with him, and said,

“You are welcome, old fisherman (добро пожаловать, старый рыбак). It was I that put this journey on you (именно я заставил тебя пуститься в это путешествие: «это был я, который наложил это путешествие на тебя»), and made you come here (и заставил тебя прийти сюда) looking for your son (в поисках сына; to look – смотреть, глядеть; to look for smb., smth. – искать кого-л., что-л.).”

“It was no one else but you (не кто иной, как ты),” said the fisherman.

 “You are welcome, old fisherman. It was I that put this journey on you, and made you come here looking for your son.”

“It was no one else but you,” said the fisherman.
