 “I cannot,” said the boy. “I made a vow never to sleep three nights in one house till I had seen my three sisters. I must go on now and find my third sister.”

The salmon then took off a piece of his fin (лосось снял кусочек своего плавника; to take /took, taken/ off) and gave it to the boy, saying (и отдал его мальчику, приговаривая), “If any difficulty meets you (если ты встретишь препятствие: «если любая трудность встретит тебя»; difficulty – трудность; препятствие, помеха, затруднение; to meet – встречать; натолкнуться /на что-л./, столкнуться /с чем-л./; to meet a difficulty – встретить препятствие, натолкнуться на трудность), or trouble comes on you (или постигнет тебя какое-либо горе; trouble – беспокойство, волнение, тревога; беда, злоключение, неприятность, горе), call on what salmons are in the sea to come and help you (призови всех лососей, живущих в море, прийти тебе на помощь: «прийти и помочь тебе»; to call – кричать; to call on smb. – призывать, взывать, обращаться).”

 The salmon then took off a piece of his fin and gave it to the boy, saying, “If any difficulty meets you, or trouble comes on you, call on what salmons are in the sea to come and help you.”

They parted (они расстались; to part – разделять, делить на части; разлучаться, расставаться). The boy put on his cloak of darkness (юноша надел свой плащ-невидимку: «плащ тьмы»), and away he went (и ушел прочь), more swiftly than any wind (быстрее ветра: «более быстро, чем любой ветер»). He never stopped (он ни разу не остановился /до тех пор/) till he was hungry and thirsty (пока не захотел есть и пить: «не стал голодным и испытывающим жажду»; hunger – голод; thirst – жажда). Then he sat down (тогда он присел), took off his cloak of darkness (снял свой плащ-невидимку: «плащ тьмы»), spread the cloth of plenty (расстелил скатерть-самобранку: «скатерть изобилия»), and ate his fill (и наелся вдоволь; to eat /ate, eaten/; fill – достаточное количество /чего-л./; to eat one’s fill – вволю наесться).

 They parted. The boy put on his cloak of darkness, and away he went, more swiftly than any wind. He never stopped till he was hungry and thirsty. Then he sat down, took off his cloak of darkness, spread the cloth of plenty, and ate his fill.

When he had eaten (когда он поел), he went on again till near sundown (он снова шел дальше почти до заката; near – близ, возле, около; /приближение во времени/ почти), when he saw the castle (когда он увидел замок) where his third sister lived (где жила его третья сестра). All three castles were near the sea (все три замка были = стояли у моря). Neither sister knew what place she was in (ни одна из сестер не знала, где именно она жила: «в каком месте она была»; to know /knew, known/), and neither knew where the other two were living (и ни одна из них не знала, где жили две другие /сестры/).
