 There was great rejoicing and a feast at the castle of the king of Erin. At the end of the feast the queen said, “I wish to give the last cup to this stranger who is here as a guest,” and taking him to an adjoining chamber which had a window right over the sea, she seated him in the open window and gave him a cup of drowsiness to drink. When he had emptied the cup and closed his eyes, she pushed him out into the darkness.

The prince of Lonesome Island swam on the water for four days and nights (принц Одинокого Острова плыл по воде четыре дня и ночи; to swim /swam, swum/), till he came to a rock in the ocean (пока он не приплыл: «приблизился» к какой-то скале в океане), and there he lived for three months (и там он жил три месяца), eating the seaweeds of the rock (поедая водоросли со скалы; sea – море; weed – сорная трава, сорняк; seaweed – морская водоросль), till one foggy day (пока одним туманным днем; fog – туман) a vessel came near (/к тому острову не/ приблизилось судно) and the captain cried out (и капитан не крикнул), “We shall be wrecked on this rock (мы разобьемся об эту скалу)!” Then he said (затем он сказал), “There is some one on the rock (на этой скале кто-то есть); go and see who it is (пойдите и посмотрите, кто это).”

 The prince of Lonesome Island swam on the water for four days and nights, till he came to a rock in the ocean, and there he lived for three months, eating the seaweeds of the rock, till one foggy day a vessel came near and the captain cried out, “We shall be wrecked on this rock!” Then he said, “There is some one on the rock; go and see who it is.”

They landed (они высадились /на ту скалу/; land – земля, суша; to land – высаживаться, выгружаться /на берег/), and found the prince (и нашли принца; to find /found/), his clothes all gone (вся его одежда износилась: «его одежда вся пропавшая»; to go /went, gone/ – идти, ходить; исчезнуть, пропасть), his body black from the seaweed (/все/ его тело было черным от морских водорослей), which was growing all over it (которые росли по всему его телу).

“Who are you (кто ты такой)?” asked the captain (спросил капитан).

“Give me first to eat and drink (сперва дайте мне поесть и попить), and then I’ll talk (а затем я все расскажу: «я буду говорить»),” said he.

 They landed, and found the prince, his clothes all gone, his body black from the seaweed, which was growing all over it.

“Who are you?” asked the captain.

“Give me first to eat and drink, and then I’ll talk,” said he.

They brought him food and drink (они принесли ему еды и питья; to bring /brought/); and when he had eaten and drunk (а когда он наелся и напился; to eat /ate, eaten/; to drink /drank, drunk/), the prince said to the captain (принц сказал капитану), “What part of the world have you come from (из какой части света вы прибыли; part – часть, доля; край, местность)?”
