On market-day (в базарный день), I was put into a closed box for the journey to the town (меня поместили в закрытом ящике для поездки в город). We arrived at an inn (мы подъехали к гостинице) called the Green Eagle (называемой = под названием "Зеленый орел"). The farmer spoke to the inn-keeper (фермер поговорил с содержателем гостиницы) and then paid a town crier (а потом нанял городского глашатая; to pay — платить; нанимать за деньги /для совершения какого-л. действия/) to walk through the town telling of the wonderful sight (пройти = чтобы тот прошел по городу, извещая об удивительном зрелище) which could be seen at the Green Eagle (какое можно увидеть в "Зеленом орле").
