The journey took us ten weeks. We stopped at eighteen large towns and many villages on the way. In fact the farmer stopped to hold shows any time that he saw the chance of making money. I even performed my tricks in private homes, if the people were rich enough to pay the farmer's price.
Glumdalclitch had done everything she could to make things easier for me. Several times a day she said she was tired riding and wanted to rest for a while. Then she would take me out of my box so that I could walk about a little and get some fresh air.
It was October 26th when we arrived in Lorbrulgrud (когда мы приехали в Лорбрулгруд, было 26 октября). The farmer found lodgings on the main street in the centre of the city (фермер остановился: «нашел жилье/комнату» на главной улице в центре города;

It was October 26th when we arrived in Lorbrulgrud. The farmer found lodgings on the main street in the centre of the city, not far from the royal palace. He hired a large room, about three or four hundred feet wide, with a very large table in the centre. He had a border made around the edge of the table, about three feet high, to prevent me from falling off. Within a very short time I was giving ten shows a day.
By this time I was able to speak the language quite well (в это время я /уже/ мог довольно хорошо говорить на /местном/ языке) and understand what was said (и понимать, что говорилось). Glumdalclitch had also taught me the letters of their alphabet (научила меня также буквам их алфавита) and I was learning to read their language (и я учился читать на их языке). She had even continued to teach me during our journey (она продолжала обучать меня даже во время путешествия), carrying a small book in her pocket (нося/имея с собой в кармане маленькую книжку). — To me, of course, the book was the size of a very large and heavy atlas (конечно, для меня /эта/ книга была величиной с очень большой и тяжелый атлас). — It was from this book about their religion that I learned to read (по этой книжке о их религии я и учился читать).
