The journey took us ten weeks. We stopped at eighteen large towns and many villages on the way. In fact the farmer stopped to hold shows any time that he saw the chance of making money. I even performed my tricks in private homes, if the people were rich enough to pay the farmer's price.

Glumdalclitch had done everything she could to make things easier for me. Several times a day she said she was tired riding and wanted to rest for a while. Then she would take me out of my box so that I could walk about a little and get some fresh air.

It was October 26th when we arrived in Lorbrulgrud (когда мы приехали в Лорбрулгруд, было 26 октября). The farmer found lodgings on the main street in the centre of the city (фермер остановился: «нашел жилье/комнату» на главной улице в центре города; lodging/s/ — /временное/ жилье; /сдаваемая/ комната, квартира), not far from the royal palace (недалеко от королевского дворца).
