And, as he turned away weeping, one whose armour was inlaid with gilt flowers, and on whose helmet couched a lion that had wings, came up and made inquiry of the soldiers who it was who had sought entrance. And they said to him, 'It is a beggar and the child of a beggar, and we have driven him away.'

'Nay (нет),' he cried, laughing (воскликнул он, смеясь), 'but we will sell the foul thing (но мы продадим это грязное существо) for a slave (в рабство: «в качестве раба»; slave — раб, невольник), and his price (и цена за него: «и его цена») shall be the price of a bowl of sweet wine (будет ценой за чашу сладкого вина = на эти деньги мы купим чашу сладкого вина).'

And an old and evil-visaged man (и один старик, со злобным лицом; -visaged — как компонент сложных слов — имеющий какое-то лицо или вид, visage — лицо, внешний вид) who was passing by (который проходил мимо) called out (вызвался), and said, 'I will buy him for that price (я куплю его за эту цену),' and, when he had paid the price (и, когда он заплатил деньги: «цену»), he took the Star-Child by the hand (он взял Звездного Мальчика за руку) and led him into the city (и повел его в город; to lead (led) — вести, показывать путь).

And after that they had gone through many streets (и после того, как они прошли по многим улицам) they came to a little door (они подошли к маленькой двери) that was set in a wall (которая была расположена в стене) that was covered with a pomegranate tree (покрытой /листвой/ гранатового дерева; to cover — покрывать). And the old man touched the door (и старик коснулся двери) with a ring of graved jasper (кольцом из резной яшмы; to grave — гравировать, высекать) and it opened (и она открылась), and they went down five steps of brass (и они спустились по пяти медным/латунным ступенькам; to go (went, gone); step — шаг; ступень) into a garden filled with black poppies (в сад, наполненный черными маками) and green jars of burnt clay (и зелеными кувшинами из обожженной глины; to burn (burnt, burned) — жечь).
