DOMINANTS OF THE POLICY OF MEMORY IN UKRAINE (1989–2015)
In this article the politics of memory is understood as the combination of social practices aimed at representation (or modification) of certain images ofthe past which have been revived by contemporary political context. The politics of memory is primarily concerned with the interpretation of the past and is modeled according to the specific internal and external factors of the state functioning, and is determined by the nature of political power. The politics of memory is characterized by actualization and selectivity, focuses on some events, characters, places of memory, at the same time ignoring the other ones. The «memory» is considered a sociocultural phenomenon, characterized by variability and dependence on a number of factors.
The author divides the politics of memory in the independent Ukraine into several conventional stages. It is also important to take the complex interweaving of the matrices of valuable orientations into account (there is no confirmation of the «new» memory model in the «pure form», which means that it is confirmed not on the «sterile» area). Under the influence of the politics of memory textbooks are rewritten, places of memory are changed, etc.
The nature of the politics of memory is determined by the nature of political power in Ukraine (presidential terms of powers).
