Указательные местоимения this и that (для единственного числа), these и those (для множественного числа) указывают на предмет \ предметы и подчёркивают их отдалённость от говорящего.

These glasses are very big. – Эти очки очень большие.

Those glasses are very big. – Те очки очень большие.

This glass was on the shelf. – Этот стакан был на полке.

That glass was on the shelf. – Тот стакан был на полке.

Неопределённые местоимения указывают на некое количество чего-либо, не дают конкретики о предмете разговора.

There are some people in the yard. – Во дворе какие-то люди.

Are there any people in the yard? – Во дворе есть какие-то

люди?

There are no people in the yard. – Во дворе нет людей.
