The two young men used to go together to the mountains to get wood (два молодых человека имели обыкновение ходить вместе в горы /чтобы/ собирать дрова; to be used to do smth. — иметь обыкновение делать что-либо), and always carried their bows and arrows (и всегда несли = имели при себе свои луки и стрелы), to kill deer and antelopes (чтобы охотиться на оленей и антилоп), or whatever game they might find (или для другой дичи, которую они могли найти; game — дичь, зверь, добытый на охоте).

One day the false friend came to Kahp-too-'oo-yoo, and said (однажды неверный друг пришел к Кахп-ту-'o-йу и сказал):

"Friend, let us go to-morrow for wood, and to hunt (друг, пойдем завтра за дровами и поохотиться)."

One day the false friend came to Kahp-too-'oo-yoo, and said:

"Friend, let us go to-morrow for wood, and to hunt."

They agreed that so they would do (они договорились, что так они и сделают). After a long, hard chase (после длительной, тяжелой погони), Kahp-too-'oo-yoo killed a deer with his swift arrows (Кахп-ту-'o-йу подстрелил оленя с /помощью/ своих стремительных стрел), and brought it on his strong back (и принес его на своей сильной спине; to bring) to the place where they had separated (на место, где они расстались; to separate — разъединять; разлучаться). Presently came the friend (спустя некоторое время пришел друг), very hot and tired (очень разгоряченный и уставший), and with empty hands (и с пустыми руками); and seeing the deer (и при виде: «видя» оленя), he was pinched with jealousy (его ужалила зависть = он почувствовал укол зависти; to pinch — щипать, ущипнуть; мучить, причинять страдания; jealousy — ревность; зависть).

Take of this deer and cook and eat (возьми /часть/ от этого оленя, приготовь и съешь); and carry a part to your house (и отнеси часть к себе домой), as if you had killed it yourself (словно бы ты сам его убил)."

"Thank you (благодарю тебя)," answered the other coldly (ответил другой холодно), as one who will not (как тот, кто не хочет); but he did not accept (но он не принял).
