"Thank you," answered the other coldly, as one who will not; but he did not accept.

"Friend Kahp-too-'oo-yoo (друг), now I will prove you (сейчас я испытаю тебя; to prove — испытывать, пробовать) if you are truly my friend (в самом ли деле ты мой друг), for I do not think it (потому что я так не думаю)."

"Surely (конечно)," said Kahp-too-'oo-yoo, "if there is any way to prove myself (если есть какой-нибудь способ доказать/подтвердить; way — способ, средство, метод), I will do it gladly (я с радостью это сделаю; gladly — радостно, весело, охотно, с удовольствием), for truly I am your friend (ведь я на самом деле друг тебе; truly — на самом деле, истинно, поистине)."
