Just as I had finished the last sentence (как раз когда я закончила писать последнее предложение) and was thinking what to say next (и раздумывала, что сказать дальше; next — потом, затем, после) — plump (плюх)! — it fell off the ceiling (она свалилась с потолка) and landed at my side (и приземлилась рядом со мной; to land — высаживать, выгружать /на берег/; оказаться /где-либо после падения/; side — стена; место рядом).

They are dreadful creatures (это страшные твари; creature — создание, творение; тварь, животное). I'd rather find a tiger under the bed (я бы предпочла обнаружить тигра под кроватью).
