Dorothy reached up both arms (Дороти вытянула вверх обе руки) and lifted the figure off the pole (и подняла = сняла фигуру с шеста), for, being stuffed with straw, it was quite light (потому что, будучи набитой соломой, она была довольно легкой).

"No, indeed (нет, на самом деле /не знаю/). I don't know anything (я ничего не знаю). You see, I am stuffed, so I have no brains at all (видишь ли, я набит /соломой/, поэтому у меня вовсе нет мозгов)," he answered sadly (ответил он печально).

"Oh," said Dorothy, "I'm awfully sorry for you (мне ужасно тебя жаль)."

"Do you think (как ты думаешь)," he asked, "if I go to the Emerald City with you (если я пойду с тобой в Изумрудный Город), that Oz would give me some brains (даст ли мне Оз немного мозгов)?"

"Why, don't you know?" she returned, in surprise.

"Do you think," he asked, "if I go to the Emerald City with you, that Oz would give me some brains?"
