'Yes, but some crumbs must have got in as well (да, но в него, должно быть, все равно попали крошки),' the Hatter grumbled (проворчал Шляпник): 'you shouldn't have put it in with the bread-knife (тебе не следовало класть его в /часы/ ножом для хлеба).'

The March Hare took the watch and looked at it gloomily (Мартовский Заяц взял часы и взглянул на них с унылом видом): then he dipped it into his cup of tea, and looked at it again (после чего он окунул их в чашку с чаем и снова взглянул на них): but he could think of nothing better to say than his first remark (но он не смог придумать и сказать ничего лучше, чем /повторить/ свое же первое замечание), 'It was the best butter, you know (это было самое лучшее масло, знаете ли).'
