He saw a most wonderful sight
(он увидел самое удивительнейшее зрелище; sight — зрение, вид; красивый вид, прекрасное зрелище). Through a little hole in the wall (сквозь небольшое отверстие в стене; hole — дыра; отверстие) the children had crept in (дети пробрались в /сад/; to creep (crept) — ползать, красться, подкрадываться), and they were sitting in the branches of the trees (и они сидели на ветвях деревьев). In every tree (на каждом дереве) that he could see (которое он мог видеть) there was a little child (было по маленькому ребенку). And the trees were so glad (и деревья были настолько довольны) to have the children back again (что дети снова вернулись; back — сзади, позади; обратно, назад) that they had covered themselves with blossoms (что они покрылись: «покрыли себя» цветками), and were waving their arms gently (и они мягко раскачивали /своими/ ветвями: «руками»; to wave — развеваться /о флаге/, качаться /о ветке/; arm — рука, лапа) above the children’s heads (над головами детей). The birds were flying about (повсюду летали птицы) and twittering with delight (и щебетали с восхищением/восторгом), and the flowers were looking up (и цветы выглядывали; to look up — поднимать глаза, взглянуть наверх) through the green grass (из зеленой травы) and laughing (и смеялись). It was a lovely scene (это была прекрасная картина; scene — место действия, сцена, картина), only in one corner (только в одном углу) it was still winter (все еще была зима).
