So he crept downstairs
(тогда он прокрался вниз /по лестнице/; to creep (crept) — ползать, красться) and opened the front door quite softly (и открыл входную дверь очень тихо; soft — мягко, нежно; тихо), and went out into the garden (и вышел в сад; to go (went, gone)). But when the children saw him (но когда дети увидели его; to see (saw, seen)) they were so frightened (они были настолько напуганы; to frighten — пугать) that they all ran away (что они все разбежались), and the garden became winter again (и сад снова стал зимним: «зимой»). Only the little boy did not run (только маленький мальчик не убежал), for his eyes were so full of tears (так как его глаза были настолько наполнены слезами) that he did not see the Giant coming (что он не заметил, как подходит Великан). And the Giant stole up behind him (и Великан осторожно подошел: «подкрался» у него за спиной; to steal (stole, stolen) up — подкрадываться; behind — позади, сзади) and took him gently in his hand (и мягко взял его в руку; to take (took, taken)), and put him up into the tree (и подсадил его на дерево). And the tree broke at once into blossom (и дерево немедленно внезапно расцвело: «покрылось цветами»; to break (broke, broken) — ломать; внезапно начинать что-либо), and the birds came (и прилетели птицы) and sang on it (и запели на нем; to sing (sang, sung)), and the little boy stretched out his two arms (и маленький мальчик протянул свои ручки: «свои две руки»; to stretch — растягивать, вытягивать) and flung them round the Giant’s neck (и бросился к Великану на шею = обнял Великана за шею: «и бросил их вокруг шеи Великана»; to fling (flung) — метать, бросать), and kissed him (и поцеловал его).
