“The next day (на следующий день) he was nailing up some honeysuckle (он прибивал /вьющуюся/ жимолость; nail — ноготь, гвоздь, to nail up — заколачивать, прибивать) against the porch (у крылечка), when he heard the Miller’s voice (когда он услышал голос Мельника; to hear (heard)) calling to him from the road (звавший его с дороги; to call — кричать; звать). So he jumped off the ladder (тогда он спрыгнул с лестницы), and ran down the garden (и побежал в сад), and looked over the wall (и глянул через забор: «над стеной»).

“‘Good-bye, little Hans,’ said the Miller, as he went up the hill with the plank on his shoulder, and the big basket in his hand.

“‘Good-bye,’ said little Hans, and he began to dig away quite merrily, he was so pleased about the wheelbarrow.

“The next day he was nailing up some honeysuckle against the porch, when he heard the Miller’s voice calling to him from the road. So he jumped off the ladder, and ran down the garden, and looked over the wall.

“There was the Miller (там стоял Мельник) with a large sack of flour on his back (с большим мешком муки за спиной: «на спине»).

“‘Dear little Hans (дорогой маленький Ганс),’ said the Miller, ‘would you mind (тебя не затруднит; to mind — в вопросительных предложениях: возражать, иметь что-либо против) carrying this sack of flour (отнести этот мешок муки) for me to market (на базар для меня)?’

“‘Oh, I am so sorry (о, мне очень жаль),’ said Hans, ‘but I am really very busy to-day (но я действительно очень занят сегодня). I have got all my creepers to nail up (я должен прибить все мои вьющиеся растения; to creep — ползать, creeper — ползучее растение), and all my flowers to water (и /должен/ полить все мои цветы; water — вода, to water — мочить; поливать), and all my grass to roll (и утрамбовать всю /мою/ траву; roll — рулон, свиток, to roll — катить; укатывать, прикатывать /почву и т.п./).’

“‘Well, really (ну, право слово),’ said the Miller, ‘I think that (я думаю, что), considering that I am going (принимая во внимание, что я собираюсь; to consider — рассматривать; принимать во внимание, учитывать) to give you my wheelbarrow (подарить тебе мою тачку), it is rather unfriendly of you to refuse (то довольно недружелюбно = не по-дружески с твоей стороны отказывать /мне/).’
