The Elephant’s Child sat there for three days (Слоненок просидел там три дня) waiting for his nose to shrink (ожидая, что его нос усохнет). But it never grew any shorter (но он так и не стал короче; to grow — становиться, расти), and, besides, it made him squint (а кроме того, это вызвало у него косоглазие: «это сделало его косоглазым».). For, O Best Beloved, you will see and understand (ибо, О Самые Любименькие, вы увидите и поймете) that the Crocodile had pulled it out into a really truly trunk (что Крокодил вытянул его = нос в самый настоящий хобот) same as all Elephants have to-day (точно такой же, какой есть у всех Слонов сегодня).

‘Then you will have to wait a long time,’ said the Bi-Coloured-Python-Rock-Snake. ‘Some people do not know what is good for them.’

Try and eat a little now (теперь попробуй поешь немного).’

Before he thought what he was doing the Elephant’s Child put out his trunk and plucked a large bundle of grass (прежде чем Слоненок подумал = не успел Слоненок подумать, что он делает, как /он/ вытянул свой хобот и сорвал большой пучок травы), dusted it clean against his fore-legs (выбил из него пыль о свои передние ноги; to dust — выбивать пыль, смахивать пыль), and stuffed it into his own mouth (и запихнул его в свой собственный рот; to stuff — набивать, напихивать, пихать, запихивать, заполнять).
