Sav?liitch was of the same opinion as the driver, and advised me to turn back, but the wind did not seem to me very violent, and hoping to reach in time the next posting station, I bid him try and get on quickly.	Савельич, согласно со мнением ямщика, советовал воротиться. Но ветер показался мне не силен; я понадеялся добраться заблаговременно до следующей станции, и велел ехать скорее.
He put his horses to a gallop, continually looking, however, towards the east.	Ямщик поскакал; но все поглядывал на восток. Лошади бежали дружно.
But the wind increased in force, the little cloud rose rapidly, became larger and thicker, at last covering the whole sky.	Ветер между тем час от часу становился сильнее. Облачко обратилось в белую тучу, которая тяжело подымалась, росла, и постепенно облегала небо.
The snow began to fall lightly at first, but soon in large flakes.	Пошел мелкий снег - и вдруг повалил хлопьями.
The wind whistled and howled; in a moment the grey sky was lost in the whirlwind of snow which the wind raised from the earth, hiding everything around us.	Ветер завыл; сделалась мятель. В одно мгновение темное небо смешалось со снежным морем. все исчезло.
"How unlucky we are, excellency," cried the driver; "it is the bourane."	"Ну барин", - закричал ямщик - "беда: буран!"...
I put my head out of the kibitka; all was darkness and confusion.	Я выглянул из кибитки: все было мрак и вихорь.
The wind blew with such ferocity that it was difficult not to think it an animated being. The snow drifted round and covered us. The horses went at a walk, and soon stopped altogether.	Ветер выл с такой свирепой выразительностию, что казался одушевленным; снег засыпал меня и Савельича; лошади шли шагом - и скоро стали.
"Why don't you go on?" I said, impatiently, to the driver.	- "Что же ты не едешь?" - спросил я ямщика с нетерпением. -
"But where to?" he replied, getting out of the sledge. "Heaven only knows where we are now. There is no longer any road, and it is all dark."	"Да что ехать? - отвечал он, слезая с облучка; невесть и так куда заехали: дороги нет, и мгла кругом.
I began to scold him, but Sav?liitch took his part. "Why did you not listen to him?" he said to me, angrily. "You would have gone back to the post-house; you would have had some tea; you could have slept till morning; the storm would have blown over, and we should have started.	- Я стал было его бранить. Савельич за него заступился: "И охота было не слушаться" -говорил он сердито - "воротился бы на постоялый двор, накушался бы чаю, почивал бы себе до утра, буря б утихла, отправились бы далее.
And why such haste?	И куда спешим?
Had it been to get married, now!" Sav?liitch was right.	Добро бы на свадьбу!" - Савельич был прав.
What was there to do?	Делать было нечего.
The snow continued to fall - a heap was rising around the kibitka.	Снег так и валил. Около кибитки подымался сугроб.
The horses stood motionless, hanging their heads and shivering from time to time.	Лошади стояли, понуря голову и изредка вздрагивая.
The driver walked round them, settling their harness, as if he had nothing else to do.	Ямщик ходил кругом, от нечего делать улаживая упряжь.
