As part of its commitment to lifelong learning, Vector, Inc., is holding a writing training session on November 6–9, 2007 at the Renaissance Ramada (www.vector.com/training/e-mail).

For sometime, upper management has been discussing our firm’s need for clear and efficient e-mail communication. Spot-checks of e-mail messages frankly reveal an appalling state of affairs. Just because an employee is literate, doesn’t mean he or she writes well. Many of you have been told that your promotions are partially contingent on improvement in written communication skills.

The writing seminar will address the e-mail forms and issues specific to our company. Managers have been asked to collect sample e-mail from their reports. These e-mails will be filtered for confidentiality and used as the basis of discussion during the seminar. If you have particular pieces of writing on file that you’d like to have considered for discussion, please forward them to me.

At the seminar you’ll be trained to spot your own writing weakness and learn to correct them. You will be provided with tools for assessment and evaluation. You will improve your writing, no matter what level of skill you possess. Together we’ll learn to streamline our written communications – reducing both inbox volume and miscommunications. And free-up more of our time for making our business grow!

Разумная критика – хорошее средство мотивации

Осторожные мягкие критические замечания обычно не воспринимаются всерьез. Людям кажется, что они необоснованны. Слишком жесткая критика тоже не дает результата. Обычно ее воспринимают как перегиб. Придерживайтесь золотой середины: изложите проблему честно и по-деловому. В этом случае к вам как минимум прислушаются, а возможно, и последуют вашим советам.

Ссылайтесь на авторитеты

Если вас поддерживает не один менеджер, а все высшее руководство, ваши доводы будут гораздо убедительнее. Ведь если адресат не согласен с вами, значит, он расходится во взглядах и с вашими сторонниками. Если сила на вашей стороне, оппозиция, как правило, капитулирует.

Иногда уместно упомянуть известного политика или историческую личность, которые пользуются всеобщим уважением. Например: «if it was good enough for Henry Ford, it’s good enough for me». Но помните, мнение исторической личности менее убедительно, чем точка зрения высших чинов компании или нынешней знаменитости. Лучше всего зачастую сослаться на первое лицо организации.
