"Who are you, monk?" asked Front-de-Boeuf.
"Pax vobiscum," said the jester. "I was travelling through the forest when I was taken prisoner by outlaws. They sent me here to hear the confessions of some prisoners."
"Good," answered Front-de-Boeuf. "Can you tell me how many outlaws there are out there?"
"At least five hundred."
"What!" said the Templar, who came in at that moment
(сказал храмовник, который вошел как раз в тот момент). "So many (так много)!" He took Front-de-Boeuf aside (он отвел Фрон-де-Бёфа в сторону;"He is a stranger
(он не местный;"Then don't tell him the message

"He is a stranger. I don't know him."
"Then don't tell him the message you want him to take to your allies in York. Let him carry a written message instead. In the meanwhile, let the monk wander around to see the prisoners, so that no one becomes suspicious."
The guards first took the jester into the hall
(стражники сперва отвели шута в тот зал) where Cedric and Athelstane sat (где сидели Седрик и Ательстан)."Pax vobiscum," Wamba said as he entered
(сказал Вамба когда вошел)."Come in
(входи)," said Cedric and looked up (сказал Седрик и поднял глаза). "Why have you come, monk (зачем ты пришел, монах)?""To prepare you for your death
(подготовить вас к смерти).""That is impossible
(это невозможно)!" replied Cedric and stared at the monk (ответил Седрик и уставился на монаха). "They would not dare to kill us (они не посмеют убить нас;enter ['entǝ], prepare [prɪ'pɛə], death [deθ], impossible [ɪm'pɔsəb(ə)l], stare [stɛə]

Then he became suspicious
(затем он что-то заподозрил: «стал подозрительным»). "I should know that voice (мне следовало бы знать этот голос)!""It is your jester

"It is your jester!" answered Wamba, and pulled back the hood of his robe. "Put my robe on and leave the castle. I will stay here in your place."
