"Farewell," said Wamba, "And remember, just say 'Pax vobiscum'."

Cedric pulled the hood of the robe over his face and hurried out of the hall.

"Can you read, monk?"

"Not a word."

"Good (хорошо). Take this letter to my allies in York (отнеси это письмо моим союзникам в Йорке). Say it comes from me (скажи, что это письмо от меня; to come — подходить, приходить; происходить, истекать /из какого-либо источника/) and was written by the Templar, Brian de Bois-Guilbert

Front-de-Boeuf turned to one of his guards (Фрон-де-Бёф обратился к одному из своих стражников; to turn — поворачивать/ся/; обращаться).

"Now, bring me Cedric of Rotherwood and Athelstane of Coningsburgh (а теперь приведите мне Седрика Ротервудского и Ательстана Конингсбургского; to bring — приносить, привозить; приводить; доставлять)."

Athelstane and Wamba were brought in (Ательстан и Вамба были приведены; to bring in — вводить, вносить, приносить).

"What have we got here (что это у нас здесь)!" Front-de-Boeuf exclaimed (воскликнул Фрон-де-Бёф) when he saw the collar around Wamba's neck (когда он увидел ошейник на шее Вамбы).

Front-de-Boeuf turned to one of his guards.

"Now, bring me Cedric of Rotherwood and Athelstane of Coningsburgh."

Athelstane and Wamba were brought in.

"What have we got here!" Front-de-Boeuf exclaimed when he saw the collar around Wamba's neck.

"I think I can tell you (мне кажется, я могу сказать вам)," answered De Bracy as he walked in (ответил де Браси, когда он вошел). "This is Cedric's jester (это шут Седрика), the one who fought so bravely against Isaac at Ashby (тот самый, который сражался так храбро с Исааком в Эшби). Saints in Heaven, this must mean (святые небесные, это должно означать; saint — святой, праведник; ангел) that Cedric has escaped in the monk's robe (что Седрик сбежал в одеянии монаха)!"
