Byelovzorov was silent a minute.	Беловзоров помолчал.
' I should kill myself....'	-- Я бы себя убил...
Zina?dalaughed.	Зинаида засмеялась.
' I see yours is not a long story.'	-- Я вижу, у вас недолга песня.
The next forfeit was Zina?da's.	Второй фант вышел Зинаидин.
She looked at the ceiling and considered.	Она подняла глаза к потолку и задумалась.
'Well, listen, she began at last, 'what I have thought of....	-- Вот, послушайте, -- начала она наконец, -- что я выдумала...

' You love luxury?' Lushin interposed.	-- Вы любите роскошь? -- перебил ее Лушин.
'Luxury is beautiful,' she retorted; 'I love everything beautiful.'	-- Роскошь красива, -- возразила она, -- я люблю все красивое.
'More than what is noble?' he asked.	-- Больше прекрасного? -- спросил он.
' That's something clever, I don't understand it.	-- Это что-то хитро, не понимаю.

So the ball is magnificent.	Итак, бал великолепный.
There are crowds of guests, all of them are young, handsome, and brave, all are frantically in love with the queen.'	Гостей множество, все они молоды, прекрасны, храбры, все без памяти влюблены в королеву.
'Are there no women among the guests?' queried Malevsky.	-- Женщин нет в числе гостей? -- спросил Малевский.
'No-or wait a minute-yes, there are some.'	-- Нет -- или погодите -- есть.
' Are they all ugly?'	-- Всё некрасивые?

But the men are all in love with the queen.	Но мужчины все влюблены в королеву.

I looked at Zina?da, and at that instant she seemed to me so much above all of us, there was such bright intelligence, and such power about her unruffled brows, that I thought:	Я посмотрел на Зинаиду -- и в это мгновение она мне показалась настолько выше всех нас, от ее белого лба, от ее недвижных бровей веяло таким светлым умом и такою властию, что я подумал:
' You are that queen!'	"Ты сама эта королева!"
'They all throng about her,' Zina?da went on, 'and all lavish the most flattering speeches upon her.'	-- Все толпятся вокруг нее, -- продолжала Зинаида, -- все расточают перед ней самые льстивые речи.
