Gruzin, a little drunk and very pleased, was crumpling a ten-rouble note in his hands.	Пьяненький и очень довольный Грузин комкал в руке десятирублевую бумажку.

"Fat ones," said Orlov, putting on his fur coat. "But let us get off, or we shall be meeting her on the doorstep."	-- Прибавьте: толстых, -- сказал Орлов, надевая шубу. -- Однако поедемте, а то, гляди, на пороге встретится.

At last they drove off: Orlov did not sleep at home, and returned next day at dinner-time.	Наконец, уехали. Орлов дома не ночевал и вернулся на другой день к обеду.

Zinaida Fyodorovna had lost her gold watch, a present from her father.	У Зинаиды Федоровны пропали золотые часики, подаренные ей когда-то отцом.

She spent half a day going through the rooms, looking helplessly on all the tables and on all the windows. But the watch had disappeared completely.	Полдня она ходила по всем комнатам, растерянно оглядывая столы и окна, но часы как в воду канули.
Only three days afterwards Zinaida Fyodorovna, on coming in, left her purse in the hall.	Вскоре после этого, дня через три, Зинаида Федоровна, вернувшись откуда-то, забыла в передней свой кошелек.

"Strange," said Zinaida Fyodorovna in bewilderment. It's very odd!"	Чудеса!
I had not stolen it, but I felt as though I had stolen it and had been caught in the theft.	Я не крал, но мною овладело такое чувство, как будто я украл и меня поймали.
Tears actually came into my eyes.	У меня даже слезы выступили.
When they were seated at dinner, Zinaida Fyodorovna said to Orlov in French:	Когда садились обедать, Зинаида Федоровна сказала Орлову по-французски:
"There seem to be spirits in the flat.	-- У нас завелись духи.
