Kamala listened to him.	Камала внимательно слушала его.
She loved his voice, she loved the look from his eyes.	Ей нравился его голос, нравился его взгляд.
"Perhaps it is so," she said quietly, "as you say, friend. But perhaps it is also like this: that Siddhartha is a handsome man, that his glance pleases the women, that therefore good fortune is coming towards him."	- Может быть, оно так и есть, как ты говоришь, мой друг, - тихо проговорила она. - А может быть все дело в том, что Сиддхартха красивый мужчина, что его взгляд нравится женщинам и поэтому счастье идет ему навстречу.
With one kiss, Siddhartha bid his farewell.	Сиддхартха попрощался с ней поцелуем.

Siddhartha went to Kamaswami the merchant, he was directed into a rich house, servants led him between precious carpets into a chamber, where he awaited the master of the house.	Сиддхартха отправился к купцу Камасвами, в указанный ему богатый дом. Через ряд комнат, украшенных драгоценными коврами, слуги проводили его в покой, где он должен был дожидаться хозяина.
Kamaswami entered, a swiftly, smoothly moving man with very gray hair, with very intelligent, cautious eyes, with a greedy mouth.	Вошел Камасвами. Это был подвижный, гибкий человек, с сильно поседевшими волосами, с очень умным, осторожным взглядом, с чувственным ртом.
Politely, the host and the guest greeted one another.	Хозяин и гость обменялись дружелюбными поклонами.
"I have been told," the merchant began, "that you were a Brahman, a learned man, but that you seek to be in the service of a merchant.	- Мне говорили, - начал купец, - что ты брахман, ученый, но желаешь поступить на службу к купцу.
Might you have become destitute, Brahman, so that you seek to serve?"	Ты, верно, впал в нужду, брахман, если ищешь службы?
"No," said Siddhartha, "I have not become destitute and have never been destitute.	- Нет, - сказал Сиддхартха, - я не впал в нужду и никогда нужды не знал.
You should know that I'm coming from the Samanas, with whom I have lived for a long time."	Знай, что я пришел от саман, с которыми прожил долгое время.
"If you're coming from the Samanas, how could you be anything but destitute?	- Если ты приходишь от саман, как же тебе не быть в нужде?
Aren't the Samanas entirely without possessions?"	Ведь саманы - люди совершенно неимущие.
