And, when Tsar Saltan you see	К славному царю Салтану;
Bow down low to him for me."	От меня ему поклон".
Here the merchants made their bows,	Гости в путь, а князь Гвидон
And the prince, with pensive brows,	С берега душой печальной
Watched their ship put out from shore Till it could be seen no more.	Провожает бег их дальный;
Suddenly, before Guidon Swam the graceful snow-white swan.	Глядь - поверх текучих вод Лебедь белая плывет.
"Greetings, my fair prince," said she-	"Здравствуй, князь ты мой прекрасный!
"Why are you so sad, tell me? Why are you so dismal, say, Like a gloomy, cloudy day?"	Что ты тих, как день ненастный? Опечалился чему?" - Говорит она ему.
"Grief is gnawing at my breast," Answered Prince Guidon, distressed.	Князь печально отвечает: "Грусть-тоска меня съедает,
"I have only one desire-	Одолела молодца:
I should like to see my sire."	Видеть я б хотел отца".
"Is that all?" was her reply-	Лебедь князю: "Вот в чем горе!
"Listen-would you like to fly,	Ну, послушай: хочешь в море
Overtake that ship at sea?	Полететь за кораблем?
Why, then-a mosquito be!"	Будь же, князь, ты комаром".
Then she flapped her pinions two,	И крылами замахала,
Loudly thrashed the waters blue,	Воду с шумом расплескала
Drenching him from head to toe	И обрызгала его
Ere he could say yes or no.	С головы до ног всего.
And he hovered, then and there,	Тут он в точку уменьшился,
A mosquito, in the air.	Комаром оборотился,
Buzzed, and flying rapidly,	Полетел и запищал,
Overtook the ship at sea,	Судно на море догнал,
Settled noiselessly, and stole	Потихоньку опустился
Out of sight, into a hole.	На корабль - и в щель забился.
Merrily the breeze is singing,	Ветер весело шумит,
O'er the waves a ship is winging	Судно весело бежит
Past the Island of Buyan	Мимо острова Буяна,
To the realm of Tsar Saltan.	К царству славного Салтана,
Now his longed-for land so dear	И желанная страна
Stands out in the distance, clear,	Вот уж издали видна.
Now the ship at anchor rests	Вот на берег вышли гости;
And the merchants, honored guests,	Царь Салтан зовет их в гости,
