'The position's about as bad as it can be,' replied the Mole grumpily; 'and as for what's to be done, why, blest if I know!	- Дела хуже некуда, - сказал Крот сердито. - А что предпринять, ни малейшего понятия не имею.
The Badger and I have been round and round the place, by night and by day; always the same thing.	Барсук и я ходили, ходили вокруг Тоуд-Холла день и ночь. Все одно и то же.
Sentries posted everywhere, guns poked out at us, stones thrown at us; always an animal on the look-out, and when they see us, my! how they do laugh!	Везде - стража, наставленные в упор дула, швыряются камнями. А стоит нам приблизиться, так насмехаются, просто невыносимо.
That's what annoys me most!'	Нет ничего хуже насмешек!
'It's a very difficult situation,' said the Rat, reflecting deeply.	- Да, дело плохо, - сказал дядюшка Рэт задумчиво.
'But I think I see now, in the depths of my mind, what Toad really ought to do. I will tell you.	- Но я думаю, что кое-что я все-таки сообразил.

What he ought to do is, he ought to--'	Ему надо совсем другое...
'Well, I shan't do it, anyway!' cried Toad, getting excited.	- Ничего такого я не стану делать, - перебил их обоих Тоуд.
'I'm not going to be ordered about by you fellows!	- Хватит командовать!
