“Do you go in (пойди внутрь),” said he to the girl (сказал он девочке), “and tell my sister, the woman of this castle (и скажи моей сестре, хозяйке этого замка; woman – женщина; castle – замок; woman of the castle – хозяйка замка), to come out to me (выйти ко мне).”

 He was not long at the gate looking in when a girl came to him and said, “Go on out of that; if you don’t, you’ll be killed.”

“Do you go in,” said he to the girl, “and tell my sister, the woman of this castle, to come out to me.”

The girl ran in (девочка побежала в /замок/; to run /ran, run/); out came the sister, and asked (сестра вышла из /замка/ и спросила), “Why are you here (почему ты здесь), and what did you come for (и для чего = зачем ты пришел)?”

“I have come to this country to find my three sisters (я пришел в эту страну, чтобы найти трех своих сестер; to come /came, come/), who were given away by my father (которые были отданы моим отцом; to give /gave, given/) for their weight in gold (/взамен/ на их вес золотом), silver (серебром), and copper (и медью); and you are my eldest sister (и ты – моя старшая сестра).”

 The girl ran in; out came the sister, and asked, “Why are you here, and what did you come for?”

“I have come to this country to find my three sisters, who were given away by my father for their weight in gold, silver, and copper; and you are my eldest sister.”

She knew from what he said (она поняла из его слов: «из того, что он сказал»; to know /knew, known/ – знать; понимать, осознавать) that he was her brother (что он ее брат), so she opened the gates (поэтому она открыла ворота) and brought him in (и ввела его внутрь; to bring /brought/ – приносить; приводить), saying (приговаривая), “Don’t wonder at anything (не удивляйся ничему) you see in this castle (/что/ ты увидишь в этом дворце). My husband is enchanted (мой супруг заколдован; to enchant – очаровать, обворожить; заколдовывать, зачаровывать; enchanted – очарованный, завороженный; заколдованный). I see him only at night (я вижу его только по ночам). He goes off every morning (он уходит каждое утро), stays away all day (отсутствует весь день; to stay – оставаться, не уходить; away – далеко; to stay away – отсутствовать, не быть дома), and comes home in the evening (и приходит домой вечером).”

 She knew from what he said that he was her brother, so she opened the gates and brought him in, saying, “Don’t wonder at anything you see in this castle. My husband is enchanted. I see him only at night. He goes off every morning, stays away all day, and comes home in the evening.”
