It is hard to take up drawing again at my age, when I have never made any pictures except those of the boa constrictor from the outside and the boa constrictor from the inside, since I was six.	Не так это просто - в моем возрасте вновь приниматься за рисование, если за всю свою жизнь только и нарисовал что удава снаружи и изнутри, да и то в шесть лет!
I shall certainly try to make my portraits as true to life as possible.	Конечно, я стараюсь передать сходство как можно лучше.
But I am not at all sure of success.	Но я совсем не уверен, что у меня это получится.
One drawing goes along all right, and another has no resemblance to its subject.	Один портрет выходит удачно, а другой ни капли не похож.
I make some errors, too, in the little prince's height: in one place he is too tall and in another too short.	Вот и с ростом то же: на одном рисунке принц у меня чересчур большой, на другом - чересчур маленький.
And I feel some doubts about the color of his costume.	И я плохо помню, какого цвета была его одежда.
So I fumble along as best I can, now good, now bad, and I hope generally fair-to-middling.	Я пробую рисовать и так и эдак, наугад, с грехом пополам.
In certain more important details I shall make mistakes, also.	Наконец, я могу ошибиться и в каких-то важных подробностях.
But that is something that will not be my fault.	Но вы уж не взыщите.
My friend never explained anything to me.	Мой друг никогда мне ничего не объяснял.
He thought, perhaps, that I was like himself.	Может быть, он думал, что я такой же, как он.
But I, alas, do not know how to see sheep through the walls of boxes.	Но я, к сожалению, не умею увидеть барашка сквозь стенки ящика.
Perhaps I am a little like the grown-ups.	Может быть, я немного похож на взрослых.
I have had to grow old.	Наверно, я старею.

As each day passed I would learn, in our talk, something about the little prince's planet, his departure from it, his journey.	Каждый день я узнавал что-нибудь новое о его планете, о том, как он её покинул и как странствовал.
The information would come very slowly, as it might chance to fall from his thoughts.	Он рассказывал об этом понемножку, когда приходилось к слову.

I did not understand why it was so important that sheep should eat little bushes.	Я не понял, почему это так важно, что барашки едят кусты.
