Маленький принц

It was only in the full radiance of her beauty that she wished to appear.	Она хотела показаться во всем блеске своей красоты.
Oh, yes! She was a coquettish creature!	Да, это была ужасная кокетка!
And her mysterious adornment lasted for days and days.	Таинственные приготовления длились день за днем.

And, after working with all this painstaking precision, she yawned and said:	И красавица, которая столько трудов положила, готовясь к этой минуте, сказала, позевывая:
"Ah! I am scarcely awake.	- Ах, я насилу проснулась...
I beg that you will excuse me.	Прошу извинить...
My petals are still all disarranged..."	Я еще совсем растрепанная...
But the little prince could not restrain his admiration:	Маленький принц не мог сдержать восторга:
"Oh! How beautiful you are!"	- Как вы прекрасны!
"Am I not?" the flower responded, sweetly.	- Да, правда? - был тихий ответ.
"And I was born at the same moment as the sun..."	- И заметьте, я родилась вместе с солнцем.
The little prince could guess easily enough that she was not any too modest - but how moving - and exciting - she was!	Маленький принц, конечно, догадался, что удивительная гостья не страдает избытком скромности, зато она была так прекрасна, что дух захватывало!
"I think it is time for breakfast," she added an instant later.	А она вскоре заметила: - Кажется, пора завтракать.
"If you would have the kindness to think of my needs	Будьте так добры, позаботьтесь обо мне...

And the little prince, completely abashed, went to look for a sprinkling-can of fresh water.	Маленький принц очень смутился, разыскал лейку и полил цветок ключевой водой.
So, he tended the flower. So, too, she began very quickly to torment him with her vanity - which was, if the truth be known, a little difficult to deal with.	Скоро оказалось, что красавица горда и обидчива, и Маленький принц совсем с ней измучился.
One day, for instance, when she was speaking of her four thorns, she said to the little prince:	У нее было четыре шипа, и однажды она сказала ему:
"Let the tigers come with their claws!"	- Пусть приходят тигры, не боюсь я их когтей!

"There are no tigers on my planet," the little prince objected.	- На моей планете тигры не водятся, - возразил Маленький принц.
"And, anyway, tigers do not eat weeds."	- И потом, тигры не едят траву.
"I am not a weed," the flower replied, sweetly.	- Я не трава, - тихо заметил цветок.
"Please excuse me..."	- Простите меня...
