"It is a little lonely in the desert..."	- В пустыне все-таки одиноко...
"It is also lonely among men," the snake said.	- Среди людей тоже одиноко, - заметила змея.
The little prince gazed at him for a long time.	Маленький принц внимательно посмотрел на нее.
"You are a funny animal," he said at last.	- Странное ты существо, - сказал он.
"You are no thicker than a finger..."	- Не толще пальца...
"But I am more powerful than the finger of a king," said the snake.	- Но могущества у меня больше, чем в пальце короля, - возразила змея.
The little prince smiled.	Маленький принц улыбнулся.
"You are not very powerful.	- Ну, разве ты уж такая могущественная?
You haven't even any feet.	У тебя даже лап нет.
You cannot even travel..."	Ты и путешествовать не можешь...
"I can carry you farther than any ship could take you," said the snake.	- Я могу унести тебя дальше, чем любой корабль,- сказала змея.
He twined himself around the little prince's ankle, like a golden bracelet.	И обвилась вокруг щиколотки Маленького принца, словно золотой браслет.
"Whomever I touch, I send back to the earth from whence he came," the snake spoke again.	- Всех, кого я коснусь, я возвращаю земле, из которой они вышли, - сказала она.
"But you are innocent and true, and you come from a star..."	- Но ты чист и явился со звезды...
The little prince made no reply.	Маленький принц не ответил.
"You move me to pity - you are so weak on this Earth made of granite," the snake said.	- Мне жаль тебя, - продолжала змея. - Ты так слаб на этой Земле, жесткой, как гранит.
"I can help you, some day, if you grow too homesick for your own planet.	В тот день, когда ты горько пожалеешь о своей покинутой планете, я сумею тебе помочь.
I can - "	Я могу...
"Oh! I understand you very well," said the little prince.	- Я прекрасно понял, - сказал Маленький принц.
"But why do you always speak in riddles?"	- Но почему ты все время говоришь загадками?
"I solve them all," said the snake.	- Я решаю все загадки, - сказала змея.
And they were both silent.	И оба умолкли.

The little prince crossed the desert and met with only one flower.	Маленький принц пересёк пустыню и никого не встретил.
It was a flower with three petals, a flower of no account at all.	За всё время ему попался только один цветок -крохотный, невзрачный цветок о трех лепестках...
"Good morning," said the little prince.	- Здравствуй, - сказал Маленький принц.
"Good morning," said the flower.	- Здравствуй, - отвечал цветок.
